Character Personality:

Rin has always been a rather unruly child. Ever since he had been young, Rin’s always been a little bit stronger and his temper flaring every once and while. So many times in his life, he has been referred to as a monster. Perhaps that is one of the reasons why Rin grows into a kid that causes damage wherever he goes. In the class room, he had scared people so much they they believed him to be a devil. Rin gets into a lot of fights here and there, even in his early years. His brother, Yukio mentions that he has had plenty of practice for being good at his desired profession, a doctor, due to the fact that he has had to bandage him up. The reason why Rin is insecure all has to do with this.

He has grown up believing every word that everyone has spoken to him. No matter how hard he tries to do things the right way, it ends up blowing up in his face. His entire reasoning behind not going to high school is because he has no ambitions. Why should he? He would only fail and disappoint everyone. That’s what Rin has believed himself to be at the bottom of his heart: a no good child that has no future. In the beginning of the manga and some current points in his canon, Rin is convinced of this. It is this idea that drives his actions in the beginning. When Rin finds out from Father Shiro that he is the son of Satan, Rin doesn’t believe it at all. Instead, he states that the Father is just trying to get rid of him. Rin believes at that time that there is no reason to keep him around. He is only good for being thrown away. Due to that and expressing his verbally, it allows for weakness in Shiro’s heart and that is how Satan possess the man.

This event is important to Rin not only because it is what defines his role, but also his relationship to Father Shiro. The Father is not biologically related to Rin or Yukio, but has taken care of them in the church since they were children. He is the closest thing to a real father Rin has ever known. Everything happens too fast for Rin. Since he can’t really understand it, it is easier for him to believe that Father Shiro just wants to get rid of him. He wants to impress Shiro, wants him to see what sort of man he could become, and wants to make him proud. So to hear all of this, naturally makes Rin throw a fit. Father Shiro is important not just because of the fatherly role he played in Rin’s life, but also because of his role in death. As Satan takes over and grabs Rin, Father Shiro kills himself claiming that he is taking back his son. Rin gets a front row seat to this and everything changes. It’s because of Shiro’s death, that sacrifice, that Rin decides to be an exorcist within the True Cross Order. He now has motivation in his life, a goal. No longer is Rin willing to just work and think that will be fine since that’s all he can do. No, the life of an exorcist is the only path that he can take.

There are several reasons for that which are key to his personality. The first reason is that Rin does feel guilt over Shiro’s death. He mentions in thought that he is like Sheimi, believing that the death of his guardian his his fault. If he had done something different, then perhaps Father Shiro would not have died. Rin states that this is not one of the reasons behind becoming an exorcist, but there is still an element of it to that. Another is vengeance, of sorts. Rin wants to defeat Satan. The main reason is that Rin no longer wants anyone else to die because of him. He wants to become stronger. Honestly, he would not feel so strongly about it, to the point of risking his life and identity, if there had not been a death on his hands.

This is what Rin is in all actuality. He wants to protect people that he cares about. Rin is sacrificial himself when it comes to this part of his character. Growing up, Rin had always protected Yukio. Half of the fights he got into were on his brother’s behalf. Now that he is within the Order, Rin has done numerous things that have shown he wants nothing more than to protect everyone. During a punishment, some demons get into the school ( they had actually been summoned by a teacher ). In order to lead them away from everyone else, Rin takes off from the rest, believing that they are after him. In another instance, Rin blows his identity. No one had been supposed to know that he is a demon. However, he displays his demon form in front of his classmates and friends. All in order to save them.

What Rin is happens to be brash. He often acts without thinking, something that has been brought up to him before and he just simply pouts. Rin knows this about himself and truly does wish that he wasn’t so reckless. He is a boy that speaks his mind and does what he believes he must and damned the consequences, if he even thinks that far ahead. When he displays his demon form to everyone, he hadn’t thought about what they would think of him. He hadn’t thought about the repercussions; that he could be put to death simply because of what he is. In the beginning of the manga, he attacked that group of boys solely based on the fact that they were cutting off the legs of pigeons and came after him. Rin even engages in shouting matches with Bon, going so far as to having a physical challenge with the guy. He admits that he would get into a fight with the guy at one point. There are many times where Rin makes speeches without any regard to who is listening. Some of this depends on what is going on. Rin gets very emotional over people and their family issues. In fact, any family issues. This has happened in the case of Bon and his father as well as Sheimi and her problems with her mother. Another issue will always be in response to his position as a son of Satan. He does not want to identify with that. Rin his his own person and wants to be judged based on that. He will not be used.

He can be quite emotional. Rin often expresses himself in extreme ways and with extreme emotions. When he is happy, you know he is happy because of the stupid grin plastered all over his face. When is is pouting, you know it, because his eyes are down cast and he tends to curl up into himself. An angry or irritated Rin happens for a variety of reasons, one happening to be the fact he cannot stand to be looked down upon. He will twitch his tail and start to get vocal. While he is generally laid back, it can be a little too easy to get under his skin. Just name any of his short comings in the right way and be prepared for him to snap back.

Rin is a physical sort. Most of his actions are through force alone and not thought. Even in his speeches and the like, his flames can sometimes be seen. He hits first and asks questions later. Reacting instead of acting. That is why he and Bon have a race as a challenge. It is why Rin sometimes loses control of his flames and himself. When Yukio says to use his head, Rin uses it. Literally. There is no technique to his sword style either. He simply just swings it around.

People, more like his friends, have a great affect on Rin. Since yes, he will do whatever it takes to defend them, their opinion is important to a degree. He has never really had friends before, so the ones that he has made mean something to him. Rin can work well with them when he needs to and does think fairly well of most of them in one way or another. When they look at him in fear, it does shake him a little. All of those insecurities come flooding back. This time there is no one there to tell him that he isn’t a monster. He really is. On the other hand, Rin tries not to let it bother him and attempts to carry on as if nothings is wrong.

At the heart, that is who he is. Rin is just a normal kid with an abnormal amount of power. He is friendly and goofy. Willing to help out even if it’s something mundane like chores. Rin enjoys emotional mangas and happens to be an amazing cook. He gets all worked up over little things and acts like a child when he messes up. Schoolwork is something he just isn’t good at, at least as far as books are concerned. Rin is not an overly clever sort. Give him a hands on lesson, and he is all over that. Rin also has this speech issue, getting words here and there mixed and confused. He even has a little crush on Sheimi and has gotten flustered over her more than once. In the end, he is just a teenager with struggles just like any other.

One interesting note about Rin is his relationship with his brother. Rin adores Yukio, despite some of his harsh words. In fact, he even admires him. While Rin will allow anyone to say whatever they want about him, they are not allowed to utter one bad word about his brother. He will get in fights over this one point. Rin is proud of Yukio and how smart he is. While he does get upset with him from time to time because of all the secrets, that’s just how brothers are. Rin believes that Yukio is better than him. A better person and one that is going to go far. Yukio is one of Rin’s goals. He desires to catch up to his brother in skill, with a determined smile, and make him proud. Yukio is the good brother and the better man, as far as Rin is concerned. They are close, in their own way.

Character Abilities:

Rin has several special qualities to him. The first is his power granted to him through his relation to Satan. He has inherited the blue flames, the god of Ghenna’s trademark. They have the ability to over power other flames as well as potentially enhance other demonic ailments ( his flames made a child poisoned by miasma worse ). These flames seem to be directly linked to Rin’s emotions. The more extreme emotion that Rin displays, the more intense the flames seem to get.

His heritage also means that he is far more durable than a human. He had always been incredibly strong as a child and that carries on into his teenage years. Rin has more stamina ( proven when he is outrunning Bon ) and is quicker on his feet. These are not astronomical differences, but Rin is still above average. There is a slight chance that some of his other senses, such as his nose ( he mentioned that the blood Yukio held in the beginning reeked even though it is in a container ).

The weapon given to him, the demon slaying blade, is what contains all of Rin’s true demonic powers. His form changes to give him fiery horns as well as the ears that definitely define him as a demon. Another side affect is that Rin gets a boost in power and speed. He can jump great distances and create a massive amount of blue flame that burns everything it touches, if he so chooses. All of this power is sealed away once again the moment that the sword is sheathed.

He has a few little other things he can do here and there. Rin is gifted with the ability to regenerate or heal quickly, as in a matter of minutes. Most demonic poisons do not work on him. He seems to be immune to them and arguably other side affects caused by demons. Rin can communicate with demons too, even though humans cannot ( in the case with the Cat Sith, Kuro, Rin could hear Kuro talking when all others heard meowing ). Perhaps almost ironically, he makes a very good cook.

Character Weaknesses:

The most obvious weakness is also one of his strengths. His flames are a dangerous tool to have. Rin can lose himself to them and the power. Instead of becoming someone who desires to help the people he cares about, he is nothing more than a demon. It seems he is almost in a bloodlust state, only carrying about causing chaos and destruction like any other demon. While he is in the process of attempting to control them, the fact that this power is so unstable puts Rin in a position later that he loses all confidence in himself.

Rin is a brash sort. He speaks usually what is on his mind and does so in a way that tends to be bold and out there. Sometimes he is right and other times he just makes a fool of himself. Rin barely has control over his emotions and cannot pick and choose his moments wisely. It is an admirable trait, but also one that leads to the situation previously mentioned with his flames. The more worked up he gets, the higher chance that he gets out of control.

He carries a few weaknesses that are due to his lineage as well. A demon’s tail is actually a sort of pressure point. Grabbing onto it for any reason causes an extreme amount of pain and discomfort. Rin currently does not hide his tail like he used to ( and should according to Mephisto ). He also happens to have a special sort of ring around the base of his tail. Shura chants something and it causes crippling pain for Rin. Holy water will burn Rin’s flesh just like any other demon. In fact, there is a chance that it could kill him if he’s too reckless.

The boy is plagued by many insecurities, guilt and slight inferiority. He wants to catch up to where his brother is in the Order. There is a lot of shame that Rin carries in deceiving the friends that he had made. Typically, the boy believes himself to be something of a no good sort and tends to be the only times that he actually keeps his head low and out of the way. What his brother and friends think of him carry some weight and do affect his emotional state.

[ SOUL CAMPAIGN SECTION ]

What are the abilities that your character will retain in Soul Campaign?

• Slight increase in speed and strength.
• Regeneration, but at a slower rate than what he is used to ( 75% as per S_C standard )
• Awesome cook ;)

What are the weaknesses that your character will lose or gain in Soul Campaign?

• Holy water still burns
• Tail still will be sensitive
• His sword is gone and therefore his demonic form is also unobtainable ( as in his second form )
• Communication with demons is completely gone
• Any and all enhanced powers that come with his more demonic form
• Potentially more affected by insanity while in weapon form ( as he cannot fully control his powers and the like and he is a demon! )

Why your character should be a Weapon:

Ironic purposes. In the manga Rin says that he is no one’s weapon, savior, or demon king. In all actuality, he is still being groomed by Mephisto. Why? Well that is uncertain. In the end, he is still a tool being used. Even in the most current chapter, he had been requested to take care of the Unpure King. Why? Well because of his flames. They are the most potent weapon against the other set of flames that are to be used in the upcoming fight. Whether Rin likes it or not, he is a weapon and that is what most people in the Order will see him as, besides being a danger to society.

He also wants to be a knight within the Order. How ironic would it be for him to be the blade instead of the knight?

What is your character's Weapon form?:

Rin will be taking the appearance of the Kurikara, also called Koumaken. It is a katana held in a dark blue scabbard decorated with a golden cord. The blade itself is ordinary, no special designs or writing. A dark blue braid covers the handle of it. The guard is silver in color and matches the blade cover. More gold cords are tied around the pummel, much like charms, and dangle freely. The design of the guard is not a standard one, since it is not round in nature. It is more diamond shaped with little protrusions and rounded sides.

Abilities

The meister will get a little quicker and stronger through resonance.

Ignite: Blade becomes covered in blue flame.

• Requirement: Rin being able to concentrate
• Will go out if Rin loses concentration altogether
• Will become intense for a time limit of one minute if Rin loses control and then fizzle out, unable to relight for ten minutes
• Additional Info: Mostly display, but there will be a little heat to it, but not much. It's more of a stair step to the next ability. Honestly, this will be about as far as I expect Rin to be able to get without extreme amounts of training ( he's been at it for a while in canon and his concentration is severely lacking still... he's only been able to control his flames entirely like once and that was with extra training on his own ).

Searing Sweep: a slash of the blade creates a wave of blue fire towards a single enemy

• Requirement: Resonance
• Additional Info: I'd actually give a time limit on the usage rather than how many times it can be done. Since it will require an extreme amount of concentration on Rin's part ( and ha ha ha he's got the concentration of an ADHD puppy at times ), I'd say he probably couldn't handle the concentration to keep it going for more than 5 minutes, even if that. Again... I don't really expect him to be able to get this far, as far as abilities go. And this isn't something he would be able to do in rapid succession. He would actually have to build up the flame to be intense and strong enough, so that would time time as well. To even start out with, I would imagine he could only focus long enough to do this about two or three times before it's just too much for his focusing skills. Of course, should he get as far as even being able to do this, with time I suppose it could increase ( but that would take a lot of time ICly - months OOC wise ).

The Blue Night: Flames burst out from meister and weapon within a radius

• Requirement: Meister must be able to channel Rin's power
• Requirement: Rin must be able to control his emotional state as well as his flames ( good luck with that )
• Requirement: Resonance
• Damage: Burns everything within that 10m radius, including the clothes off of allies ( that's about as much control as Rin has over his flames in canon at the moment )
• Can only be used one time, since it will take all of Rin's energy to complete
• Additional Info: My intention was always that it would be a perfect resonance attack and nothing less and 10m is fine. And Rin's flame is unique in that it is directly inherited from Satan, who is a god in the realm of Ghenna. His "older brothers" seem to have a resistance to it, but Amaimon honestly had been severely overpowered by Rin and would have lost without Mephisto stepping in. I would say that strong enemies like death scythes and powerful witches would have that sort of resistance and be able to stand up again after it. I'd imagine Rin would actually PASS OUT after this though. Considering that we aren't really told about the specific properties, I will say burn. The only thing is that blue/white is actually the hottest burning flame on the spectrum, so we're talking an extreme amount of heat and can be put out for the sake of balancing. Again, this would be a perfect ability that I am sure Rin will not be able to obtain in SC, tbh. It's just there for reference, mostly.
